Myself and Marthe love to eat, in fact food is a major part of our relationship. We love exploring new places to eat when we are together. As we are in a long distance relationship (LDR), we now get to explore two cities, both Amsterdam and London.
When we first met in Bali, (Read our stories HERE and HERE), Marthe had already decided to become vegetarian and was interested in becoming vegan. I had been vegan for 2 years and I would tell her about all my favourite vegan food spots in London.
So here is my list of some of the best Vegan Food in London
Location: Notting Hill
Farmacy is my favourite place to go for a 3 course restaurant experience that is 100% vegan. Offering a broad range of plant based food, inspired by dishes from around the world, they cater for everyone. It’s the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or dinner as well as also offering high tea.
I would recommend the Pizzetta or Nachos as a starter to share and any of the earth bowls as a main. But make sure you leave room for desert as this is a menu that won’t disappoint. With classics such as sticky toffee pudding and ‘nice’ cream brownie sundaes, you can satisfy all your pre-vegan childhood cravings 100% guilt free.
Added note: Farmacy allows dogs! Yes that’s right, you can bring your fur baby to dinner too!
Favourite Dish: Sticky Toffee Pudding
If you were a meat eater who loved chicken, then this is the spot for you. Temple has a couple of venues around London and they are perfect for that junk food craving. Serving up, buffalo ‘wings’, popcorn ‘chicken’, fully loaded ‘chicken’ burgers and the classic mac n cheese. Your mouth will be watering the minute you walk through the door.
Favourite Dish: Twist Wrap with a side of Mac n Cheese
Location: Covent Garden & Tower Bridge
I first experienced Chloe in New York and fell in love with their legendary beetroot ketchup. The menu includes a classic vegan burger and tacos, however
One of my favourite orders is the Kale Salad, I know what your thinking … SALAD!
Want to know more, then check out this full blog post from Rhyme & Ribbons.
Favourite Dish: Fish & Chips, Kale Salad
Ok so Honest Burger isn’t technically a vegan restaurant, but I couldn’t put this list together and not give the Honest Burger ‘Beyond – Meat’ Burger a mention. To me this is the holy grail of vegan burgers. The one I judge every other burger against, and I am yet to find one better.
This burger is so good, that I have several non-vegan friends who confess it’s possibly the best burger they have ever eaten … including meat burgers!
Mae Deli is the cafe started by famous vegan ‘Deliciously Ella’, originally known for her plant based blog which developed into cookbooks as well as food products. Mae Deli is a chance to try out some of Ella’s cookbook recipes made the right way. It’s a buffet style menu where you choose from a variety of hot and cold dishes.
The food is always really fresh and vibrant, but a good thing to know is that it gets REALLY busy during week day lunchtimes, so avoid it between 12-2pm if you can.
Favourite Dish: I always order the curry, (no matter what style) So good!
Tucked away on Bayham Street, Camden, ‘What the Pitta’ is the home of the Vegan Döner Kebab. It started in Bodrum, Turkey, when Cem dropped the bombshell to his friend Roj that he had decided to go vegan, and so the two decided to start the company.
Possibly the best value for money when looking for a filling vegan lunch. You can order the classic Döner in pitta or keep it lighter with couscous. A simple, but oh so satisfying menu. I also have to mention their vegan baklava!
Oh and dogs are welcome too!
Favourite Dish: Donar in pitta followed up with Vegan Baklava
Essential Vegan is a small home-style vegan café, serving Brazilian inspired goodies. It’s the perfect place for a casual lunch or dinner with super friendly staff who go above and beyond to make you feel welcome.
They are well known for their Cassava chips and Brazilian cheese balls and the recipes used can be found on the Essential Vegan website.
Favourite Dish: Essential Jack Burger
Govinda’s is one of the top places to grab low priced quality food in London. The cafe is attached to the Radha – Krishna Temple where they are devoted to sharing the culture and practices of Bhakti- Yoga. Served buffet style, you simply choose what size portion you want and they will pile up your tray with flavours.
If your looking for a fancy hot spot, then go somewhere else, but if you want to be amongst a diverse group of people then this is the place. I am never disappointed when I eat here as you can taste that the food is made with love.
Note: Govinda’s is technically vegetarian so please specify that you are vegan.
That’s the list of my top vegan food spots in London. Feel free to comment below if you have tried any of these yourself, or if you have any more to add.
