We have reached the end of ‘Breaking the Stigma‘ Week 1. This week we have been focusing on lesbian families. Hearing from families from around the world. Celebrating what makes them special and unique. Here is a recap in case you missed our posts on @_breakingthedistance.

We asked our families to share two things:

  1. An experience you would like to share?
  2. 5 words to describe your experience as a queer family?

@thejennaway

When I came out in my early 20s, one of my biggest fears was that my future dreams of having a family wouldn’t be possible anymore. I hadn’t really heard of lesbians having a baby before…

Fast forward to now, I’m living a life beyond my wildest dreams. And I have connected with so many other lesbian women online who have families of their own.

We got married last year, something I also wasn’t sure would happen for me as a closeted queer, and soon after decided to start trying to grow our family.

We’ve been so grateful and fortunate that the journey for us has been a pretty smooth one so far, and now this autumn we’ll be welcoming our first little one into the world.

I’m so grateful for all the lesbian families who have come before us, who were the visible representation that I needed to know that this was possible for me. And I hope that now, I can be the same for someone else too.

Now I just can’t wait to meet our little one and raise them surrounded by love, and the wonderful LGBTQ+ community that I get to be a part of.

We’re Cara + Cara (yes, same name lol) + our 11 year old daughter, Myla! We’re a blended two mom family in Atlanta, GA.

Being a two mom family in the south isn’t always easy, and especially so for Myla when it comes to fielding constant questions from kids at school about how she has two moms, but we have built a solid, loving community here.

We stand together, supporting each other in joy and continue letting our love shine bright always! Because no matter what, our love will always win!! Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Being part of a queer family is a unique and enriching experience.

Our family is built on a foundation of unconditional **love** We create a space where everyone feels valued and accepted. We love to go on **adventures** together, exploring new places and creating cherished memories that last a lifetime. The **laughter** we share is a constant reminder of the joy that fills our lives, even in the face of challenges.

In our family, **support** is most important . We stand by each other through thick and thin, providing a safety net that encourages us to be our best and true selves. Above all, the essence of our queer **family** lies in the understanding that our connections are defined by the deep, unwavering love we have for one another.❤️

Stay tuned next week for the ‘G’. When we celebrate gay couples from around the globe.

Happy Pride!
